Course Outline: While much of this material may seem familiar, it will be treated to a deeper and more sophisticated level than has been the case previously. 1. Atomic Structure and Quantum Theory (Chapter 2): Development of Atomic Structure Bohr’s Atom, Atomic Spectra Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, Schrodinger’s Equation and Particle in a Box, Orbitals Multielectronic Atoms (Aufbau, Hund's Rule, Pauli Exclusion Principle). We will look at how the gradual filling of orbitals affects the properties of atoms like ionization energies, electronegativity and atomic radii.
