3/128 In the structural design of the upper floors of an industrial building, allowance must be made of the accidental dropping of heavy machinery through a small distance. For a machine of mass m dropped through a very small distance onto a floor which acts elastically, determine the maximum force F supported by the floor. (The problem is modeled by the mass m mounted on supports a negligible distance above a spring of stiffness k, with the action occurring when the supports are suddenly removed.)
