We used methane gas at around 500°C to reduce the copper oxide. Experimental data : Mass of test tube: 17.428g ± 0.01g Mass of test tube plus contents: 19.428g ± 0.01g Mass of mixture: 2.000g ± 0.01g Final mass of test tube plus copper: 19.052g ± 0.01g Mass of copper 1.624g ± 0.01g Sample Calculations : Mass of Copper Oxide Mass of test tube with copper oxide with copper oxide-mass of test tube 19.428g ± 0.01g – 17.428g ± 0.01g = 2.000g ± 0.01g Mass of Copper Mass of test tube with copper – mass of test tube 19.052g ± 0.01g – 17.428g ± 0.01g = 1.624g ± 0.01g Mass Percentage of Copper (1.624g/2.000g) * 100 = 81.2%
