In this paper I plan to argue that killing a fetus unless in result of rape is simply providing a “way out” for irresponsible people who were acting out of impulse without thoroughly analyzing the consequences of their actions. Thomson believes in her view that “the right to life is to be understood as the right not to be killed unjustly and does not entail the right to use another person’s body.” (Social Ethics, 28) The idea of Thomson’s that “right to use another’s body” contains the majority of the controversary in regards to her philosophy because the fact that it removes any responsibility on the part of the people who were having intercourse in the first place. Thomson provides examples called “The Violinist” alluding to a rape case and another titled “People Seeds” where the use of contraception didn’t perform as it was trusted to. Between these is the major controvesery because in her thinking both would be situations where abortion would be permissible; however, I believe like many others that the later of the two removes all
