La Plante 1 Ashley La Plante Per. 4 – AP US Gov Free Response Question Interest groups employ many techniques to benefit the group. In order to gain attention and publicity, a group may impose litigation (or a lawsuit) on another institution usually for infringing upon something the group supports. A group would choose to use this to call or direct attention to the group or towards a specific issue to which they hold a strong opinion. This technique influences and puts pressure upon the government or other institutions that have the power to make the changes that are being asked. Another technique used is campaign contributions. Groups that would like action taken in their interest may award a certain candidate or political party money to influence a quid pro quo. By funding a specific candidate or party, interest groups have the power to influence these people, shifting the scales in their favor. The third technique interest groups use is grassroots lobbying.
