A. La Plante 1 Ashley La Plante AP US History Mr. Altieri 08.31.06 Mock Interview 1) Mr. Washington, in your famous Farwell Address , one of your main focuses was on national unity. With strong personal differences including political affiliation, do you think this country will truly be at peace with itself? - “Well, I certainly hope this country will fully unite but it is only a hope; it is not definite. If America continues to act as it has been, there will be quarrels between political parties in the future. If men continue to have such passion for their political party, tension will remain. Political status should not be viewed as a primary title to defend with life and limb, but all men are entitled to their own beliefs, after all, that was for what this country was built. Some men have taken their beliefs to the extreme, similar to the ‘interview’ between General Alexander Hamilton and Colonel Aaron Burr, both extraordinary men of their time. I have already warned the public of the repercussions if they do not unite as a country, putting political parties aside. The union is and should be our first priority. As I have said, this nation ‘needs to subordinate narrow interest to the
