There- fore, the alternative hypothesis (what we are “out to show”) is H a : μ 6 = 40. The hypotheses are H o : μ = 40 H a : μ 6 = 40 The type I error: H o is true and we reject it. This means that the true mean amperage at which the fuses burn out is 40 but we said that it is different from 40. This may cause the manufacturer to unnecessarily attempt to fix the manufacturing process, costing time and probably money. The type II error: H o is false and we fail to reject it. This means that the true mean amperage at which the fuses burn out is different from 40 but we said that the manufacturing process is fine and producing fuses with a mean burn out amperage of 40. This may cause either electrical fires, in the case that the true mean amperage is higher, or customer complaints in the case that the true mean amperage is lower....
