Caitlin Vodopia 10/18/2010 Hewlett-Packard: The Flight Of the Kittyhawk HP launched the Kittyhawk in 1992 but after 2 years of effort sales were still low Spenner wanted a disk drive that could be used in laptops and eventually handheld computer devices or any product that used a microprocessor The Kittyhawk project had heavyweight support yet many thought HP should be focusing on higher gigabyte products and not a product whose market is still unclear The Kittyhawk team separated itself from the division and also physically relocated to trailers outside of main buildings. Engineers were given free rein to make timely and important decisions The team consisted of a rep from manufacturing, R&D, and marketing, and The team had five goals to accomplish: 1) introduce kittyhawk in 12 months, 2) have a break-even time of 36 months, 3) achieve $100 million revenue rate in two years after launch, 4) be the first 1.3 inch drive in the market, and 5) have revenue
