DBQ Doc G: 1. Explain what the United States observed in this photograph. This photograph represents the location in Cuba where the launch sites of the nuclear missiles are and a previous photograph also showed the distances those missiles could travel in all directions if launched. We can observe that the United States is finding in this photo all of the areas that have anything to do with missiles and finding how they can pose a threat to the world. 2. How did this situation affect the Soviet Union? Cuba? The United States? The Soviet Union and the United States were disagreeing when the Soviet Union formed this alliance with Cuba. The Soviet Union liked the friendship with Cuba because Cuba’s location is so close to the United States. Cuba benefited from the relationship with the Soviet Union because they had previously been attacked by the United States and Russia was a large nation that could help Cuba. The nuclear missiles located in Cuba made the United States nervous and threatened the peaceful lives of Americans.
