Here is the lecture summary for the first two classes (8/31 and 9/2). These summaries are not meant to be a substitute for lecture, but rather a starting place if you miss a lecture or as a review of the most important concepts for the week. Students have found the summaries most useful when used to supplement the class notes. It is helpful to look over the terms and questions because these are the things that I expect you to have learned during class. (If you miss a class, it is always helpful to look over someone’s notes and then ask your TA or Prof. Deming during office hours if you need further explanation.) Past students have found it useful to define terms weekly and write out answers to the questions on notecards. You then will have some good study aids when preparing for exams. REMINDERS: Homework #1 is due: Sept. 16 due at the beginning of lecture–see p. 7 of syllabus. Please read INSTRUCTIONS at the top of this page before beginning. The Astrology Experiment is due at the beginning of your discussion section on Sept. 21 or 22–see
