COMM 230.2 - Fall 2010 Project 1 Continuity Editing (Silent) Assignment Shoot and edit a simple, creative narrative involving at least one person that displays conventional, continuity editing techniques and principles. Maximum length = three minutes Include at least three examples of matching on action. Obey both the 180-degree rule and the 30-degree rule. Try to include examples of other continuity editing techniques, including eyeline match, crosscutting (parallel action), compression of time, etc. Avoid jump cuts! Vary your shot composition, framing, camera angles, lens focal lengths and depth of field. Vary shot types, including reaction shots, POV shots, reverse angles, cutaways and inserts. Use manual (not automatic) focus, exposure and white balance. Use a tripod, unless handheld camerawork is clearly justified. Plan thoroughly before shooting. Sketch storyboards and draw (simple) floor plans of camera and primary character/object positions. Don’t just wing it as you shoot, though do remain open to
