Homework #6 Metaphors in “I Have a Dream” 1. Identify (quote) the metaphor. “Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred.” 2. Identify the components of the metaphor according to the vocabulary. Principal Subject: Bitterness/ Hatred (Non-violence in the African American community) Subsidiary Subject: Being thirsty/ drinking (Yearning/ partaking in freedom) 3. How do you know that this is a metaphor? I know it is a metaphor because it is a comparison between two generally dissimilar things without using ‘like’ or ‘as’.
