Emily Cole HIST 1060.002 Week 2 Terms Brian Price Ming: Founded by Zhu Yuanzhang. The dynasty brought a new age of splendor, and included innovations in literature. Also renewed agrarian and commercial growth that supported a large population. (Text p601) Qing: Manchu dynasty that seized control of China in the mid 17 th century after decline of Ming; forced submission of nomadic peoples far to the west and compelled tribute from Vietnam and Burma to the south. Ruled an area larger than any previous Chinese dynasty with the exception of the Tang. (Text G-12) Confucius / Confucianism: A Chinese philosopher, political figure and teacher. His teachings, found in the Analects, form the foundation of much Chinese theory on the education and comportment of the ideal man, how such an individual should live his live and interact with others, and the forms of society and government in which he should participate. (Confucianism is a subject of philosophy, not a religion. China is one of two officially atheist countries in the world. The other being Czechoslovakia.)
