The emergence of Social Media in the accounting profession Several years ago, with the first emergence of social media and blogs, two very different personas existed; the number crunching accountant who seemed to have no interest in the subject and the 16 year old high school girl dying to find out the latest news on Britney Spears logging on every minute of everyday. Today, as Social Media takes an even more important stance in everyday life, the two personas and their use of social media may not be so different after all. Both can use this to adapt to a changing work and social environment. Accounting firms can use this to their advantage to help with recruiting as well as strengthen internal relationships and interests. Preparing for the new wave of communication Preparing yourself for this next wave of communication and interaction is essential to maintain and grow your business. Accounting firms must realize the potential of these emerging social networks
