Research Methods Discussion Lecture Material by Laurel Tranynowicz Discussion This discussion session should provide the following: Clear answers to the research question (you can find the RQ in the prospectus) What was learned from the study Why should anyone care about the study Summary of the research findings Limitations of the research (anything that is a weakness or handicap that potentially limited the validity of the results) Implications for future research (i.e. if we had more time to continue on/if we were to do it over again we would study_____________) Writing the discussion section: Refer to the research question near the beginning of the report (don’t wait until halfway through to mention it) Point out (compare/contrast) whether results of our research are consistent with the conclusions drawn from the research used in the review of literature Interpret the results of our findings and offer explanations (i.e. It is interesting to speculate on possible reasons why_________.
