Discuss the history/background of this theory. Fisher sees his theory as a paradigm to signal the “breadth of his vision.” Paradigms are broader than a theory. His paradigm refers to the effort to force us to see and understand all human communication. 3. Identify and discuss the key assumptions of this theory. Look at both the Narrative Paradigm and the Rational World Paradigm. Narrative Paradigm: -Humans are storytellers -Decision making is based on “good reasoning” -Good reasons are based on history, culture, biography, and character -Rationality is based on how consistent and truthful a stories is perceived -Humans live life through re-creating of stories Rational World Paradigm: -Humans are rational -Decision are based on arguing -Arguments are based on how logical it sounds
