Biol 315 Lecture 28 Review Checklist Know the names and numbers of  permanent teeth  and  deciduous teeth . Know the anatomy (parts) of a tooth. Do all teeth have the same number of  cusps  and  roots ? What are dental  alveoli ? What clinical implications might  an abscess in an upper tooth present?  Know the locations and functions of the  intrinsic  and  extrinsic muscles  of the  tongue. Know the names of the  lingual papillae . Which contain  taste buds [Editor’s note: understand that taste buds are similar to rods and cones in  the retina and hair cells in the internal ear in that they are specialized   receptor cells  that generate electrical activity that subsequently stimulate  sensory neurons to fire] Know the parts and functions of the  palate . What is  cleft palate  and how  might it impact functioning of the digestive system?  How is the microanatomy of the oral cavity different from that of other
