1 An intranet is an internal organizational network that provides access to data across the enterprise; it uses the existing company network infrastructure along with the internet connectivity standards and software developed for the World Wide Web, connecting several networks to a central database system. Communication is the most important service that a company can have, this helps departments stay in communication with one another and it keeps the customer informed, may it be thorough the internet, telephone service or through customer service, small companies can manage fine with small local area connections to keep them connected . Large companies that have many different locations around the United States and the world would benefit from a network that connects them all to a central database system also know as a Local Area Network. These networks can connect many several small companies to a shared network for easy communication and easy reliability. The network infrastructure for large companies consists of many small local area networks. Several powerful servers support the corporate website, the corporate intranet, and maybe even an extranet. A close friend of mine works for a global cell phone company, the main headquarters is here in the United States, but the company has sub-companies around the world. The employees for this company have quick easy internet access that allows them to log in from anywhere in the world and enter the companies database and make changes to cell phone
