According to Chapter 18, a persuasive essay is an argument that takes a position on an issue and offers reasons and supporting evidence to convince someone else to accept, or at least consider, that position. Argument is also used to persuade someone to take an action (or not to take an action). In Chapter 4 it states a topic is what or who you are writing about. A good topic for an essay is one that interests you, that you know something about, and that you can get involved in.
