Based on the information given in this case study its evident there is trust in this organization, and that the manager has great communication with the employees. "For this reason, you have been able to attract workers who are skilled and committed to the company's long-term success." If I was placed in this situation I will stress loyalty, loyalty in our company and its value for all employees. I would remind the employees before the economic downturn of what we were. How we where a unit and a team then and that we still are to this day. Once that is said I will also stress the need that because we are a team what affects us effects all and not just one department will experience pay cuts but the entire company. I will also let them know that no layoffs will be made unless the company itself is closes down. What are your options given the union's apparent duplicity and lack of ethical standards?
