Objective – Design an RC circuit and observe the charging and discharging of a capacitor, while using an oscilloscope to estimate the time constant of an RC circuit. II. Instruments Used A. Power Supply B. Function Generator C. Oscilloscope D. Multimeter E. Stopwatch III. Parts Needed A. Breadboard B. Switch C. 16k, 270k, 1M ohm resistors D. 1uF, 10uF capacitors IV. Charging an RC circuit with a DC source A. Experimental Setup: The RC circuit below was used to observe the charging of a capacitor. A multimeter and stopwatch was used to observe the voltage of the capacitor over time, from 0V at t=0 to the voltage at steady state. Picture 1 B. C. D. Experimental Setup: The power supply was replaced from the previous experiment with a function generator, and the voltage across both the capacitor and function generator over time were observed using the oscilloscope.
