Wang 1 Susan Wang Wyrauch English 1 Honors 26 September 2005 Chapter Twenty-Six The commissioner sat in his candle lit room, thinking about his book. The more he thought about it, the more he realized what had happened. In all the years he had tried to bring civilization and a new religion into different parts of Africa, he had never seen such a man fighting for his village. As soon as that pen touched the sheet, he paused. All the ideas he had thought of became useless. All he could picture was Okonkwo hanging from the tree. Okonkwo died for his village, yet the Commissioner couldn’t help but to think that he was the reason for Okonkwo’s death. The next morning, Obierika held an emergency meeting in his compound. Everyone from the village showed up and the room was packed, leaving barely any room to sit. No one knew what the commotion was all about, but they did know that Obierika is acting more and more like Okonkwo everyday. “Are we just going to sit here and watch those people take over our village?” Obierika shouted. “No!” replied the villagers. “Are we going to get revenge for our friend Okonkwo who died for our freedom?”
