How is Athena’s view of Odysseus’ situation differ from Zeus’? Athena is very worried for Odysseus and his family while Zeus is more confident and casual about it. What action does Zeus take when Athena tells him about Calypso? He sends Hermes to tell Calypso to let Odysseus go. What kind of goddess is Calypso? Calypso is a nymph. Why does Calypso rescue Odysseus? She rescues Odysseus because she saw him struggling and loved him. Why does Calypso let Odysseus go? She lets him go because Zeus is all- powerful and MUST be obeyed.

What is Styx? The Styx is the river that runs between the Underworld and the realm of living mortals. How do the gods use the Styx name? The gods use its name to swear by. What happens as Odysseus sights the island of Phaicia? Poseidon brews up a storm to deter him. How do Ino and Athena help Odysseus to land after Posiedon’s storm? Athena stops all but one wind Poseidon throws at Odysseus, and Ino gives him a veil to keep him alive and tells him what to do (swim to the island).
