Assignment #7 Manya Maier Coms 226 The Atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Some claim it was for the good of America because it ended the war and saved the lives of American soldiers. Others think it was a bad decision to drop the bombs since it killed thousands of Japanese people, injured many and destroyed their cities. Value : Revenge and self-preservation do not constitute the decision to intentionally destruct two cities and kill innocent people. Value object : Central values to be debated are Sanctity of the living vs. preservation of reputation and revenge. Value Hierarchy: Sherwin stated that his research found that a big part of the decision to drop the bomb was to satisfy doubters and to revenge Pearl Harbor. The argument believed by most people to be why the bomb was dropped, was with the intention to end the war. But Sherwin says that the Japanese had been trying to surrender before the bomb was dropped so this reason is not justified. Therefore the values for supporting the drop
