Outsourcing: New Pressures to Stay Home, Old Reasons to Go Abroad Outsourcing is defined in the article as," ship jobs overseas."([email protected]) For example when one calls ATT customer service one is speaking to someone in India who may not speak good English. Why not have phone customer services in the States? Well because it is cheaper to pay people from a poor country with lower incomes. We will discuss the reasons for companies to stay "near-shore" and the reasons companies go abroad.([email protected]) Outsourcing may seem to be cost effective at first, but if a company does not do all the research needed there may well be a lot of hidden cost involved like quality control issues. "A recent report by The Boston Consulting Group (BCG), notes that exports from low-cost countries dropped sharply during the crisis from $3.8 trillion in 2008 to $3 trillion in 2009 and have yet to recover to their pre-downturn levels.
