Learning Objectives for Exam 3 After mastering Chapter 12, you should be able to: 1) Describe the phases of the cell cycle and list one or two important  events that occur in each phase.  2) Describe the stages of mitosis and important events in each stage,  including behavior of the chromosomes. 3) Explain how cyclins and cyclin-dependent kinases regulate  progression through the cell cycle. 4) List ways that cancer cells differ from normal cells. After mastering Chapter 13, you should be able to: 1) Describe stages of meiosis and important events that occur at  each stage, including movement of chromosomes. 2) Compare and contrast mitosis and meiosis. 3) Explain how random segregation of chromosomes and  recombination between homologous chromosomes contribute to  genetic diversity of gametes produced by an individual organism.  After mastering Chapter 14, you should be able to:
