We wish to examine the effects of the dimensionless bulk substrate concentration, β, and the modified Damkohler number, β*Da, on the dimensionless reaction rate, v/v max . Our approach will be to plot v/v max versus β for 2 different values of β*Da. a) First, derive an expression for v/v max in terms of β and β*Da. Equation (2.16) from the book is a good starting point. b) Use your expression from part (a) to plot v/v max versus β for β*Da = 100 and β*Da = 1.0. Your plot should span β values from 0 to 50. What do these 2 plots tell you about the effect of mass transfer limitations on the kinetics of the observed reaction rate? Question 2.
