Act 2 Enter Montano from stage right. Montano looking out in the distance with binoculars onto the city waiting for any news of the conflict. Cassio enters Cassio: “The police have broken up the conflict. There will not be a brawl over the negotiations.” Montano turns from the window looking elated. Cassio: “I am troubled at the lack of news about Othello.” A noise is heard. “That surely must be Othello.” Montano looks back out the window and Cassio returns with Desdemona, Emilia, and Iago. Montano gestures a welcome. Then Desdemona looks questioningly around the men in the room searching for her husband. Cassio shakes his head. Cassio: “We were separated.” Squints eyes and points in general direction. Iago and Desdemona talk, Desdemona is laughing and Iago appears serious Emilia: Turns to Desdemona. “Don’t listen to him!” Pushes Iago away. Desdemona stops listening to Iago and turns toward Cassio. Cassio and Desdemona flirt in the background. Iago steps away and begins to wring his hands, evil stare to the audience. Iago: “I have caught them together, perhaps I can convince the Irish brute that she is unfaithful!” Cassio: Iago points and all turn in the same direction the previous car came from. “Look, maybe that is Othello’s car!” Enter Othello . Desdemona runs to Othello and hugs him. While Desdemona and Othello embrace Iago looks contemplative and shoots a hateful look at him. Othello: “ Good news! The battle is over!” (to Desdemona) Let us go home.” All exit except Iago and Roderigo Iago: Whispers in his ear. “Listen, I must tell you of Desdemona’s secret love for Cassio” Roderigo looks confused and Iago continues to explain
