ECE 228A: Extra credit DUE Thursday, June 10 PROBLEMS: 1.) Use the OptiSystem Lite sample file '2 nd Order SRS.osd' to study the use of SRS to make an amplifier. A.) i. Using the length, attenuation, and peak Raman gain coefficient used in the software, calculate the power threshold for the pump laser. ii. Run the link simulation with the pump laser set to the Pth you calculate and look at the OSA forward output from the amplifier. Does the pump laser provide gain to the multi-line source lasers? iii. At what pump power does the most amplified multi-line source laser see 5 dB ofgain? B.) i. Calculate the free-space wavelength that will receive the most amplification from the pump laser. ii. Does the calculated wavelength correspond to the most amplified multi-line source laser? iii. Why is there another peak in the gain around 1.66 J.lm? iv. Run the simulation for pump powers of30 and then 32 dBm. What happens to the gain at 1.56 J.lffi and 1.66 J.lm as the pump power is increased from 30 to 32 dBm?
