PUBLIC HEALTH ESSAY Tuberculosis by SHIH, HUNG-YU (Raik) 1. what is tuberculosis (TB) Tuberculosis is kind of chronic infectious disease. It is also named phthisis . These germs called Mycobacterium tuberculosis . These bacteria invade into human body and cause tissue dead. Over 90% of tubercle bacilli accumulate in pulmonary system, specifically in the lung. However, tubercle bacilli could spread via blood from lung to all organs, like pleura (the coving of lungs), meningitis (tubercles meningitis is sometimes seen in newly infected child) , lymph node, bones, intestines, reproductive organs and even in the skin . So when we mention about tubercle bacilli, we always linked it with tuberculosis. This disease spreads through the air when a person with tuberculosis of the lungs or throat coughs sneezes or talks, but not all of TB patients could infect. If their mucus, sputum or saliva do not exist tubercle bacilli. So they will not infect anyone. 2. what are the symptom of tuberculosis (TB) U A bad cough that lasts 3 weeks or longer U Weight loss U Coughing up blood or mucus U Weakness or fatigue U Fever and chills U Night sweats U Lack of appetite U A chest pain
