Environment of evolutionary adaptedness – the past environment in which currently observed adaptations were shaped It refers to the social, technological, and ecological conditions under which human mental abilities evolved. Example – psychological mechanisms that cause contemporary humans to overeat were probably shaped in an environment of evolutionary adaptedness in which overeating was rarely a problem 2. Explain the difference between social facilitation and observational learning. Which is the more likely explanation for shared behaviors among non-human primates? Social facilitation – occurs when the activity of one animal indirectly increases the chance that other animals will learn the behavior on their own Observational learning – occurs when naïve animals learn how to perform an action by watching the behavior of experienced, skilled animals
