EXPERIMENT #2 Estimate to the nearest + 0.1 of the smallest scale division Any measurement is an approximation of the true value Accuracy: difference between measured value and true value Precision: Range of a repeated set of measurements of a properties Systematic Uncertainty (Systematic error): It has a definite cause and causes the results to be all high or all low. Random Uncertainty (Random error): Caused by uncontrollable variables and affects the precision of the measurement by causing the data to be scattered around a mean value. Experimental uncertainty: Systematic and random uncertainty combined/Standard deviation of the reported results Experimental error: Uncertainties in final results Error in chemistry: Experimental uncertainty measured as carefully as possible. Mistake and error aren’t the same The rate at which water cools depends on the container on which it’s placed Calibration of probe: on/off ->main->temperature->temperature v time->calibrate
