In many cases, keep focus on  audience so tone is friendly rather  than unnecessarily authoritative. Example: “I/We” focus – I think you should adopt the  policies listed in my proposal when  implementing a retirement plan. “You” focus – You may find the following  information useful when implementing a  retirement plan. 22
