Be able to identify the 5 functions of soils in the environment. 4. Know the 4 basic processes involved in soil formation and be able to identify examples of each. 5. Know the 5 soil forming factors and what they mean or imply. 6. Know the type of parent material that dominates Florida’s soils. 7. Know when the basis of the Florida platform was formed (slide 24, Lecture 2) and the type of sediments that dominated the platform for several million years. 8. Know the origins of the sediments that ultimately formed the parent materials for Florida’s soils. 9. Know the basic definition of “soil horizons” 10. Understand the fundamental differences between physical and chemical weathering and examples of each. 11. Weathering is an example of which of the 4 soil forming processes.
