FACTS Just the facts (no legal analysis); tell the story – what happened, why did the case end up in court. Keep it short and to the point, but well written. Use proper sentences and grammar. Use active verbs not passive. Who are the plaintiff and defendant (appellant/respondent), once identified use their names.

General • The reason lawyers write case briefs – • It is a way to summarize the case (that means I don’t expect a 10 page paper – should be no longer than 2 pages. It is harder to write a short concise paper, than a long one). If the court asks a question, you know your facts, know your issue, and you know why the court reached the decision. Brief the assignment case • Brief the Haunted house case (posted on blackboard). • The assignment needs to be well written. • No specific format other than the required sections – be creative.
