Kristie Fambro November 25, 2008 Project/Correlation Seat #1 This study comes from a larger study which looks at burnout in medical residents in otolaryngology. The average age of the medical residents was 31.1. The average number of hours of sleep per night was 6.2. The average number of hours worked in an average week was 72.2. The study consisted of a total of two hundred individuals: 23% female and 77% male. In this particular study, we are looking at whether or not there is a relationship between the number of on call days in an average month and the number of nights and weekends worked in an average month for these particular residents. To analyze this data for this particular purpose, we would have to complete the analysis for correlation. The assumptions for correlation would have to be met: the data is normally distributed because the calculated mean and medians for both variables are about the same. The function would also have to be linear. The points were plotted on a scatter plot and there was evidence of a
