FINAL EXAM: REVIEW SHEET Below is a list of topics you should know from each area we covered this semester. Although it looks long, it is a thorough explanation of everything you will and will NOT need to know for the final exam. Use this sheet to guide your studying of notes and the book. ALL QUESTIONS on the final will deal ONLY with the topics below. Introduction Know areas of psychology we went over in class Know what each area focuses on (only what we went over in class ) Research Methods Know difference between external validity and internal validity Research Design o Be able to distinguish case study, correlational design, and experimental design o Know advantages and disadvantages of each of these types of design o Correlation coefficient (know minimum/maximum, how to interpret values) o Know two requirements of experimental design and what they mean Experimenter bias and Participant bias o Double-blind study Ethics in research o Know that informed consent and debriefing are required for experiments o Know what informed consent and debriefing are Biological Psychology Know what an axon is Know what a synapse is Know how neurons transmit information o What happens inside a neuron when it fires o How information is transmitted from one neuron to another (synaptic transmission) o Do NOT need to know terms (resting potential, graded potential, action potential) Know what neurotransmitters are o Do NOT need to know specific examples of neurotransmitters Know difference between central nervous system and peripheral nervous system Brain o Know the 4 lobes: where they are and what they are responsible for o Do NOT need to know any other parts of the brain Know what plasticity means Understand how twin studies and adoption studies can tell you about the influence of genes vs. the
