Astronomy 114 observing session pre-lab Go to http://www.skymaps.com/downloads.html Print out a copy of the Evening Sky Map for the month you plan to go to the observatory. Note that the map is made for about 8 pm at the start of a month and 7 toward the end. Also remember that the observatory has a somewhat blocked view in most directions because of buildings and trees that obscure objects near the horizon. You won’t be able to see objects near the edge of the circle on the sky map. Using the map begin a list of what you might see during your visit. Times on the chart are given in UT, Universal time. To convert them to local time go to http://tycho.usno.navy.mil/zones.html or remember that Eastern Standard time = UT – 5 hours. On the left side of the map you will see a calendar of interesting happenings in the sky during the month. Answer the following questions and mark the sky map appropriately. 1.
