Paige Anderson 01 October 2010 Chemistry 211 Lab Empirical Formula of Zinc Iodide Abstract The goal of this Lab was to determine the empirical formula of the binary compound of Zinc Iodide by preparing a sample of zinc iodide and measuring the reacting masses of each of the element. In conclusion each groups had different empirical formula because the moles for the reacted Zn and the reacted Iodine each varies according to the groups.

Purpose : The purpose of this experiment is to determine the empirical formula for the compound Zinc Iodide Procedures : First weigh a dry evaporating dish, then add 2grams zinc to the dish and weigh them together Get a test tube with Iodine weigh and record the mass of the test tube Add 5ml of distilled water to the dish with the Iodine, Zinc and 6 M acetic solution together ( be sure that this done under the hood) Use the test tube to stir/ swirl the mixture for 10 minutes until the color change from Orange – Dark orange to clear Once this is complete discard the solution containing the product Zinc Iodide, Wash the
