American Literature Notes 19:00 Moby Dick The Spouter Inn The wall of the prison (appearances) pushed close to me Ahab belief is that Moby Dick is a messiah of the whales, inhuman force of  nature, nature’s god pushed close to you, and that it represents the whales in a  similar way in which Christ represents the human Not the human here, but the universal cannibalism of the sea that Moby Dick  represents Strike at the whale, you strike at God You find out what God is, and at the same time you insult God back for Insulting  you Emersonian Independence: you get your vengeance on God In order to piss off God you must destroy the things within THIS world It’s no just random people/things, you must kill/destroy anyone you are close  to/has helped you in your life Destroy the ideal relations you have put in the world Nature is the only thing you can reach
