American Literature Notes 19:01 Benjamin Franklin (Autobiography ) City of Destruction                                    Celestial City In between there is the one man path, the path of the pilgrim Reading a book (the bible) and weeping The true gospel, the true bible, as interpreted by Protestants The secret knowledge is the true gospel of salvation by grace Sends him on this enormously effort filled journey  Autobiography: Benjamin Franklin wandering through this landscape of people  who are all hindering him Originally: his parents who are religious in a descending way From his brother, all of the people who fill his life with religious disputation Pilgrim’s Progress: 2 nd  best work of the century (behind the bible) Gives you the template that shows you the pattern of salvation Allegory: universalized, following a character called “Christian”
