CF: American Catholic Intellectual Traditions 17:19 1) From a contemporary overview of Catholicism in the US to its 19 th  and 20 th  century history:  Creative Fidelity . A combination of contemporary topic  introductions and primary sources from the last two centuries. Grouped in  themes. 2) Understanding the title of the volume: “American” (USA) “Catholic (Roman) Intellectual Traditions” that which permeates the whole (NT story of the leaven) not US Catholic Church (national), but universal Catholic Church within US No established religion: therefore religion is voluntary and churches compete Tradition of wisdom and knowledge, and practices that sustain it per virtues “intellectual” – not just philosophy and theology; someone who spends a lot of  time thinking about reality (historical, artistic, etc – they think about it in  relation to the human condition)
