In 2009, approximately 75 million people traveled to the beaches of Florida. While Florida’s coastline is beautiful, overcrowded beaches make it a little hard to kick back and relax. A mere 90 minutes by air from Florida are a string of islands in the Caribbean where uninterrupted relaxation awaits you. Just 575 miles of Miami, Florida is home to one of the Caribbean’s best kept secrets: The Turks and Caicos Islands. I have been going to the Turks & Caicos with my family every few years since I was three years old. The islands’ beautiful scenery, warm temperatures and carefree attitude continues to draw us back year after year. Today I will tell you about the geography and location of the Turks & Caicos, its diverse culture and island life and reasons to travel to the islands. Let me start with the island’s geography and location, as well as highlighting some of its most beautiful features. I. A.
