The room looked empty as I knew it would. After all, the most important person had left for a new life in the suburbs. I was glad she was gone, since mother had started paying more attention towards me. However, as days passed by the emptiness of my room gave me sleepless nights. I never thought I would miss that attention seeker so much. Katie was ten when my parents had adopted her on our way back home from Nepal. It was a great change for me at first, since I always wanted a younger sisterto play with. My family loved her and so did I then but gradually as I got to know her better, I began to despise her. She had her own ways to trick me off. I on the other hand, a very patient person, never really fought back. Whenever I did, though, the fights got ugly. My parents and my brothers always favored her in everything. Complaining or crying in front of my mother never helped. It almost seemed like I was the adopted one. My parents always explained to me; “Beth, I know you wanted the MP3 player, but we are a little short on money now. We will buy something new and different next month, I promise.
