9/30/2010 2 Human perspectives Anthropocentric view , ours is often a myopic view: look well beyond yourself. Are humans truly at the top of the tree of life? Most biomass on Earth is prokaryotic , has existed longer 3.7 byr, prokaryotes have far greater biodiversity than we & occupy all environments of Earth’s biosphere. Are prokaryotes dependant on us or we on them? Frankly, you’re full of it! • Prokaryote cells in you are 10X #’s of your cells Earth once believed the center of the solar system!
