06/10/2010 12:15:00 Cultural Inertia We have an inborn urge to elaborate and make things complicated and have  rules Humans vs. monkeys o Humans are unique that they are constantly sexually receptive o Develop a complex cultural superstructure o Semi-permanent mating:  provides security for young Newborn babies are helpless for a period of time Humans have developed culture because it takes time to adjust  socially to become an adult How do we define and adult? Definition of marriage:   Marriage is not a covenant between a man and a woman, animals have these  relationships too.   Marriage is a covenant between a man and a woman on one side and their  community on the other Marriage is a relationship between a man and a woman which is socially  recognized as appropriate by their community  o Community?  Us government who gives marriage license; church;
