Aubree Yeiser Mrs. Littlefield English IV, Period 1 23 March 2009 Pride and Prejudice : Chapters 53-61 Think and Discuss Questions 1) Lady Catherine visits Longbourn to tell Elizabeth that she does not approve of Mr. Darcy proposing to Elizabeth and that she should decline any offer made to her. She also tells Elizabeth that if her and Mr. Darcy are to be married, he will lose any relationship with her and many other family members. Elizabeth is not willing to tell Lady Catherine that Mr. Darcy has already proposed, however she also does not deny it. She was originally kind in trying to turn down Lady Catherine’s demands, but once she refused to accept Elizabeth had to get rid of her in any way possible. 2) Lady Catherine’s visit is rather ironic, because her visit was the push that Mr. Darcy needed in order to propose to Elizabeth. When Mr. Darcy heard of Lady Catherine’s outrage over Elizabeth’s refusal of her proposal, Mr. Darcy gained enough confidence to talk to Elizabeth one more time. 3) Jane is surprised about Darcy’s proposal to Elizabeth because her sister
