Unformatted text preview: Week 2 Factor of Safety Data Analysis (Experiment 1) Alex Fidalgo Stevens Institute of Technology 9/15/10 Design Laboratory III E-231 Section J Group 2 I pledge my honor that I have abided by the Stevens Honor System. ______________________________ Objective: The purpose of this experiment was to express the variability in the strength of a bean due to imperfections in fabrication and variation of material properties. Having this knowledge, it was possible to consider sources of error and other factors that can contribute to the non-reproducibility of test data. Procedure: 1. Clasp the even numbered aluminum bar and the plywood bar to the bench using the C-clamp. 2. Record the distance from the edge of the workbench to the end of the aluminum bar and the plywood bar. Keep these constant throughout the experiment. 3. Pick a point along the bar where the deflection measurements will be taken from. Record this point, and use the same point for all measurements....
