John R Finkell Jr. May10 - Sec M: Leadership and Organizational Behavior Course Project Identify the organization 1. Organization Overview Regional Transit System (RTS) is a city owned public transit bus system that is located in Gainesville Florida. Besides serving the public in public transportation they also service the local college students as this is one of their main revenue of income besides the standard government subsidies (® RTS Regional Transit System Gainesville, FL). 2. Personal role within organization I am a VSA for RTS this is a light mechanic that takes care of the cleaning and light repairs of the busses. I took this job with the city in hopes that I could use it as a spring board to get into the IT department of the city. It was my thinking that being in the city would help me to open doors as they would hire from within before looking to the outside. I have been employed with RTS since 2007 and as of yet have not been able to get any doors that would allow me to advance in the city. 3. Issues Communication as with any industry is a major factor in how well an organization functions. The structure of a firm can either enhance or hinder its efficiency and productivity. In other words how well information flows and to whom can determine how well the different parts of the organization works. The inability to communicate effectively can mean getting farther from the achievement of their goals and objectives and this is why organizations should make it a point to help employees learn more about techniques and strategies that can improve communication in the workplace.

Two let them know about any practical skills required to do their job and three and this is where communication breaks down in RTS as well as in many organizations and this is interactions that give them a sense of belonging and self worth in addition to being listened to, respected, and trusted (Business Performance Pty Ltd, 2003-2010). Problem Identified and Defined RTS has an ineffective communication system that is affecting the employees’ morale and productivity. Information on what is happening and where the organization is heading is limited at best. Even the supervisors receive very little information from the upper level management. This problem is not subject to the management only however, as one shift does not communicate with the next to pass on needed information on projects that they have been undertaking. This is a problem that needs to be addressed from the ground up and will help to enhance moral and overall productivity. Ineffective communication causes many problems within an organization such as
