Software as a service, referred to as SaaS from herein, is software that can be distributed in an on-demand fashion. It is downloaded via the internet to the subscriber and the software is then utilized on the individual’s personal computer or on their network in order to suit their needs. SaaS is a subscription service (as legitimate software use requires licensing) where the individual or organization is able to pay as they use the service or software. Updates and maintenance on the software are completed at the hosting organization’s expense. As with anything, there are advantages and disadvantages to the use of this technology.
